• charity name
• province - use the abbreviations like "AB" for Alberta 
• by sector like type in "veterans", "cancer"
• town - if you live in a small town and it's a small local charity, it will be hit and miss. But give it a try!

Also, very often, people are requesting a charity we have a report on. Please double-check the A-Z listing of charities for the charity you are searching for.

There's the CRA Charities Directorate with:

its basic search (click the highlighted blue link) and it also has an

Advanced Search Feature where you can use the Charity's 9 digit registration number (just remember no spaces!) and most charities end in RR0001, unless they are "national franchisees" like Salvation Army and Legions. 

CharityData also shows all the CRA data on its website too, with years of history. 

Each year we get requests from you to review and rate charities. If these are small charities with less than $1 million in revenues, we're really looking for excellence. We don't want to post ratings and reviews on small charities that could do harm. Small charities need to excel. They must be:

1. Financially transparent - are at least two years of full audited financial statements posted on its website?

2. Good results reporting - solid information about the number of people they serve, the work and programs they do.

Transparency and accountability are the starting blocks. If a small charity doesn't want to be transparent and accountable, we're not interested in doing the work on a rating.

We receive about 3,000 requests each year, which is more than our small team can do. So each year, we add about 10-20 charities that get the most donor requests.
