About
Founded in 1985, Adventist Development and Relief Agency Canada (ADRA Canada) was created by the Seventh-day Adventist Church with the mission to work with people in poverty and distress to create positive change through partnerships and responsible action. ADRA Canada is part of the ADRA network, which has a presence in approximately 120 countries. The charity was granted General Consultative Status by the UN in 1997. It works in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Colin Glassco Foundation for Children, GlobalMedic, Hinks-Dellcrest, University of Guelph, and Salanga.
Adventist Development and Relief Agency Canada divides its international work into two main areas: development programs and humanitarian and emergency assistance programs. Within each area, the charity addresses issues in one of six sectors: water & sanitation, food security, education, health, income generation, and emergency response. It receives funds from various sources, identifies projects that target specific needs, then provides funding, monitoring and evaluation of the projects to ensure achievement of desired outcomes.
In its most recent annual report, Adventist Development and Relief Agency Canada reports running 36 relief projects and 14 development projects in F2016. These projects helped 1.2 million people in 26 countries. International program costs made up 97% of program spending for F2016 and Canadian program costs made up 3%. Of international program costs, 64% related to humanitarian and emergency assistance and 34% related to development programs.
