Founded in 1984, Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba (RMHM) provides affordable accommodation for families of sick children who must travel to receive medical care at hospitals in Winnipeg. The charity is formally known as the Pediatric Oncology Family Centre of Manitoba Inc. RMHM is one of 15 Ronald McDonald House Chapters in Canada that operate 16 Ronald McDonald Houses, 17 Family Rooms, and one Care Mobile across the country.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba runs one home and one family room. RMHM opened a new Ronald McDonald House in September 2022. The new house increased its square feet from 11,000 to 60,000 and bedrooms from 14 to 40. The charity reports the new house can increase its mission delivery by 186%. RMHM’s new house is located three blocks from HSC Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg.
RMHM’s Family Room is a 3,500 square foot space inside HSC Children’s Hospital. The Family Room has three bedrooms available for families with the most critical needs. The Family Room cannot be booked in advance.
RMHM provided 5,380 nights of accommodation in both its House and Family Room to 884 families in F2022.
