OVERVIEW
About Rethink Breast Cancer:
Founded in 2001, Rethink Breast Cancer (RBC) empowers young people who are concerned or affected by breast cancer. The charity states that 1 in 8 Canadian women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.. The charity also states while the majority of those diagnosed are over 50 years of age, breast cancer can and does occur in younger people. RBC primarily engages in support, education, advocacy and research. The charity reports on its T3010 that it spent $698k on its programs in F2023.
Rethink Breast Cancer connects people with breast cancer to others who understand what they are going through. The Rethink Network is a private online space for people with breast cancer to get peer support. In F2023 261 new members joined the Rethink Network. RBC also has virtual support groups with trained social workers or psychotherapists. In F2023 RBC states it held more than 20 sessions. RBC also states it sent over 100 care packages globally to 22 countries.
Rethink Breast Cancer provides breast cancer information resources and educates the public about breast cancer. Uncovered is a resource focused on the breast cancer experience of People of Colour. In F2023 Uncovered contained 187 articles and stories and reached 53.3 million people. RBC’s instagram reached 868k people with 1.9m impressions.
Rethink Breast Cancer advocates for issues that matter to those with breast cancer. In F2023 RBC provided 6 profile submissions to the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health. RBC shared the profiles so decision-makers would understand how cancer drugs impact real people. RBCs Bitterest Pill Campaign advocates for those who need to take home cancer drugs for the first time. In F2023 RBC states it sent almost 300,000 advocacy emails.
Rethink Breast Cancer funds breast cancer research. In 2021 RBC partnered with Pfizer Canada to create a joint research grant program. The charity reports in 2023 together they granted over $200k to 3 recipients. But, RBC reports no research grant spending on its AFS or T3010.

Results and Impact
RBC advocated for resolving inequities faced by cancer patients who need take-home drugs for the first time. RBC states all political parties committed to resolving the inequities during the 2022 Ontario election based on its advocacy effort.
RBC states 70% of women with breast cancer are recommended for hormone therapy for up to 10 years following active treatment. This hormone therapy interferes with the ability to become pregnant. Rethink assisted with recruitment and helped fund the Canadian arm of the The Baby Time (Positive) study. This study found that temporarily stopping hormone therapy to try to become pregnant didn’t result in higher rates of cancer recurrence.
While Ci highlights these key results, they may not be a complete representation of Rethink Breast Cancer’s results and impact.
The charity is not yet rated on impact (n/r).
