About Belleville General Hospital Foundation:

Established in 1979, Belleville General Hospital Foundation is the fundraising arm for the Belleville General Hospital in the Quinte Region of Ontario. It raises funds for hospital equipment and capital projects. It has a mission to make Belleville General Hospital the best equipped community hospital in Canada.

Belleville General Hospital is part of Quinte Health Care, a system of four hospitals serving a combined 160,000 living in Prince Edward and Hastings Counties, and the southeast portion of Northumberland County. The Foundation does not publish an annual report of its own but Quinte Health Care reports that in F2017, the health system cared for 331,000 people, 13,400 of which were inpatients. Emergency departments across the four hospitals served 104,000 patients. Belleville General Hospital is home to the health system's oncology department, which served more than 10,000 people in F2017. These outputs were collected from Quinte Health Care’s annual report as the Foundation does not publish an annual report of its own.

The Foundation also supports Quinte Children’s Treatment Centre (CTC) by raising $300k for a new playground. The CTC provides habilitation and rehabilitation services to almost 1000 children with special needs each year. Over 10,000 therapy sessions are provided for children up to 18 years old.

Financial Review:

Belleville General Hospital Foundation is a medium-sized charity with $3.2m in donations and special events fundraising in F2016. Administrative costs were 5% of revenues and fundraising costs were 25% of donations. For every $1 donated, 70 cents went to the cause. This falls within Charity Intelligence’s reasonable range for overhead spending. The Foundation has $7.9m in funding reserves, of which $1.4m are donor-endowed. Excluding donor-endowed funds, the Foundation can cover annual grants to the hospital 6.1 times.
