OVERVIEW
About BGC Canada:
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is a 5-star charity. It has above average disclosure with an A+ results reporting grade. It holds reserves within Ci’s reasonable range. For every dollar donated to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, 69 cents are available to go to the cause.
Founded in 1929, BGC Canada is the national umbrella charity for a federation of local Boys and Girls Clubs across the country. BGC Canada supports its member Clubs through national grants, training, and program coordination. Clubs provide safe, supportive spaces during out-of-school hours where children and youths build confidence, form relationships, and develop life skills. Club programming spans STEM and digital literacy, physical fitness and sports, mental health and wellness, arts, child care, before- and after-school programs, scholarships and job readiness, crime prevention, and food security.
The charity reports that 25% of children across Canada live in food-insecure households. It also reports that 1.2 million children and youth in Canada are affected by mental illness. Many young Canadians face a difficult transition into adulthood, with youth unemployment at 14.6%, the highest rate since 2010. On top of this, more than 7 in 10 young people have been exposed to online hate and violence.
Ci pulled data from the charity's T3010 filing with the CRA to determine its expenses. In the fiscal year ending December 2025, the charity spent $5.7m on charitable activities and distributed $5.1m in grants.
In 2025, 665 Club locations served 166,695 children and youth across every province and the Yukon. Of these, 47% were aged 6 to 12, 24% were aged 13 to 21, 15% were five and under, 11% were 29 and older, and 3% were 22 to 28. Clubs served 8,109,366 healthy meals and snacks over the year.
In 2025, BGC Canada expanded its MyBGC and MyBGCU learning platforms. It added 11 youth programs on employment, mental health, and financial literacy. It also added five staff programs, nine engagement activities, and 11 live events, along with 39 platform enhancements. BGC Club Day, its national awareness day, reached over 3.3 million people on social media.

Results and Impact
A report by BGC Canada tracked how Club participation affects children and youth across Canada. The three-year study, called Learning and Impact, ran from 2022 to 2024. It combined a national survey of 20,796 members with 1,246 one-on-one interviews.
The 2024 survey results show the impact of Clubs on children and youth. 90% of respondents said that because of the Club, they feel more comfortable being themselves. 44% said this was true "a lot." 90% said they are more physically active, with 48% saying "a lot." 92% said they are better at helping out when needed, showing improved initiative. 88% said they are better able to take steps toward their goals.
BGC Canada also reports that 100% of Clubs are registered and active on MyBGC and MyBGCU, with program completions up 219% from last year. It also reports that 91% of Clubs engaged in BGC Club Day across ten provinces and one territory.
While Charity Intelligence highlights these key results, they may not be a complete representation of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s results and impact. BGC Canada is not yet rated on impact (n/r).

Finances
Ci consolidated the finances of BGC Canada with those of its associated Foundation. Donations from the Foundation to the operating charity were excluded from revenues and expenses. BGC Canada henceforth refers to the combined financials from both charities.
In 2025, BGC Canada earned $16.4m in revenue. It received $10.0m in donations (61% of total revenue) and $3.3m in government funding (20% of total revenue).
Administrative costs are 12% of revenues (less investment income). Fundraising costs are 19% of donations. Total overhead is 31%. For every dollar donated to BGC Canada, 69 cents are available for programs. This is within Ci's reasonable range.
BGC Canada does not report fundraising costs in its audited financial statements, which is not a best practice. Ci instead used BGC Canada's T3010 filing with the CRA to determine this amount.
In 2025, BGC Canada spent $5.7m on programs (35% of total revenue) and distributed $5.1m in grants (31% of total revenue). It recorded a $1.9m surplus and spent $nil on capital projects.
BGC Canada has $15.4m in net reserves. Of this, $4.2m is donor endowed. Excluding donor-endowed funds, BGC Canada could cover 106% or roughly 13 months of annual program costs.
This charity update has been sent to BGC Canada for review. Changes and edits may be forthcoming. Updated by Nick Reszetnik on July 16, 2026.

Note: 1. Ci consolidated Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada with its associated Foundation and excluded transfers between the two charities from its analysis. This affected revenues and expenses by ($296k) in 2025, ($294k) in 2024, and ($782k) in 2023. 2. BGC Canada's audited financial statements do not clearly report fundraising costs. In addition, it is unclear whether some line items combine program, administrative, and fundraising costs. To provide a clearer picture, Ci used the breakdown of program, administrative, and fundraising costs reported on the charity's T3010 filing with the CRA. However, in its 2024 T3010 filing, BGC Canada misstated how it allocated expenses across these three categories: the total expenditures reported did not match the sum of the reported breakdown by category, with the breakdown adding up to more than the total. To correct for this, Ci took the total expenditures figure and subtracted the reported fundraising and administrative costs, rather than using the reported program costs figure directly, since that figure appeared to be overstated as part of the mismatch. 3. Ci adjusted for deferred contributions and included this adjustment in other income, as it is unclear from the audited financial statements whether these are government or non-government donations. This affected revenues by $1.2m in 2025, ($815k) in 2024, and ($2.1m) in 2023. 4. Ci included the Foundation’s unrealized gains (losses) on investment in investment income, affecting revenue by $746k in 2025, $534k in 2024, and $578k in 2023. 5. Ci backed out amortization pro-rata from program, administrative and fundraising costs.
