About Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta:
Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta is a 1-star charity. It has an average results reporting score of B. For every dollar donated, 62 cents are available to go towards the cause.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta (RMHCA) was founded in 1983. In 2018, Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta merged with Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta. RMHCA supports families with seriously ill children while they receive treatment in local hospitals. Almost 70% of Canadian families live outside of a community with a children’s hospital, meaning they will need to travel to access medical care. Through its House program, RMHCA hopes to provide a home-away-from-home for any family with a sick or injured child. In 2023, Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta spent $4.1m on its program.
RMHCA’s Houses are in Edmonton, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, and Calgary. In 2023, RMHCA provided 1,242 families with 25,890 nights of comfort. In 2023, the average length of stay was 33 nights in Calgary, 25 nights in Edmonton, 5 nights in Medicine Hat, and 6 nights in Red Deer. In Calgary, the 2023 average length of stay increased by 94% compared to 2022. In 2023, the charity served 200 communities in Alberta and 52 communities outside of Alberta.
The charity reports that it could only meet 14% of the total need for its services due to a lack of space. By 2025, Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta hopes to expand its facilities and increase from 27 to 91 family suites.
