Fondation du Centre Hospitalier de L'Université de Montréal (Fondation du CHUM) is a Canadian healthcare charity founded in 1998 that supports the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM). Over 500,000 visits are made to the CHUM each year. The foundation exists to support the hospital in responding to ongoing pressures on the healthcare system. These include higher patient volumes, increasing complexity of medical cases, and the cost of maintaining and updating medical technology.
The foundation funds projects that improve healthcare delivery and patient experiences through three main programs: Transforming Care, Transforming Research, and Transforming Education. The foundation provides financial support for initiatives that the hospital may not be able to fully fund through its regular budget. In F2025, the foundation granted $17.4m to the hospital but no program spending breakdown was provided.
Transforming Care focuses on improving patient care through new equipment and clinical spaces. In F2025, this included the purchase of 100 tablets for hospitalized patients to communicate with loved ones. Ultrasound guidance devices were added to improve vein visualization and catheter placement. The foundation also acquired Synapse 3D software that helps with liver surgery planning, and a TRIAD ergonomic chair to improve patient comfort. The program also funded the Coroventis CoroFlow system, a cardiovascular tool used for more precise diagnosis in women’s heart health, making the CHUM one of the few centers in Quebec with this technology.
Transforming Research funds scientific and clinical research conducted at the CHUM, including around 2,300 ongoing clinical trials. Funding in F2025 has provided an AI tool that helps specialists observe organ function in patients with type 2 diabetes. It has also supported four research teams working on precision oncology projects, as well as labs focusing on depression and multiple sclerosis.
Transforming Education supports training and recruitment of healthcare professionals. This included funding several new fellowship programs in F2025 in order to attract specialists in different medical fields to the CHUM.
