OVERVIEW

About The Call of the Poor:

The Call of the Poor is a 2-star charity. It is not financially transparent and has a below-average results reporting grade and overhead spending outside of Ci’s reasonable range. Before you give, read Charity Intelligence’s report.

Founded in 1982 by Bishop Omer Robidoux, The Call of the Poor (COTP) is a private foundation that responds to human poverty in Third World countries. The charity raises funds from individuals, religious organizations and corporations by means of direct mail. It funds projects that provide social services, education and training, medical services, agricultural support, and infrastructure development to communities in need. From 1982 to the end of 2022, COTP funded a total of 7,059 projects. It is based in Winnipeg, MB.

In F2022, The Call of the Poor provided $530k to 89 projects in 21 Third World countries. This includes the establishment of two cooperatives for the production of honey for the poor in Tchindigue, Togo, to become self-sufficient. During the same year, the charity also supported the establishment of a chicken-raising enterprise as a source of food and income for women and the drilling of a community water well and the installation of a water storage tank in Burkina Faso. COTP’s funds also helped purchase entry-level smartphones to enable 120 orphans and children from single-parent families in Telangana, India, to continue their studies via online classes during the covid-19 pandemic lockdown. In F2022, the charity also supported a dispensary that provided medications, laboratory tests and X-rays for the sick in Mocachi, Peru.
