About Link Charity Canada Inc.:
Founded in 1998, Link Charity Canada (Link) aims to be the link between donors and their charities. Link offers services and guidance in gift planning for individuals and their companies. The charity reports it provides a way for Canadian donors to save money while giving to charity. Link offers long-term ways to give, some of which give income back to the donor to any Canadian charity or charities.
In F2020, Link granted $17.5m to 862 donor-directed charities. The top four grantees in F2020 were Foundation Office ($2.4m), Hope and Healing ($902k), World Renew ($870k), and Charitable Gift Funds Canada Foundation ($772k). The information was found using the charity’s T3010.
Link Charity’s giving options allow donors to donate shares, mutual funds, RRSPs, or life insurance policies to any charity of the donor's choosing. Link reports that most charities do not have brokerage accounts or abilities to accept these types of donations. As a result, Link is able to process the donations and give cash to the charity. Link offers charitable annuities, which pay back annual income to the donor on a principal payment. Once the donor has passed away, the principle is given to a charity of their choosing. Link Charity reports it is the number one distributor of charitable annuities Canada-wide.
Link also has a charitable loan program, which is similar to a GIC. The donor receives both annual income and the principle amount at the end of a term. The additional investment income is donated to the donor's specified charity.
