About United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin:

Founded in 1940, United Way Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin seeks to meet existing and emerging social needs and to improve lives and build community. It raises and disburses funds for agencies and programs operating in the Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin area. United Way Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin's three focus areas are children, fighting poverty and stronger communities.

In F2016, United Way of Guelph reported allocations of $2.5m towards 90 social service programs at 55 local agencies. The top 10 recipients of grants receive 51% of total grants allocated. The five largest recipients are Wyndham House ($201k), Family Counselling and Support Services ($167k), Volunteer Centre of Guelph and Wellington ($164k), the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association ($142k) and East Wellington Community Services ($123k).

With regards to funded programs targeting children, 900 children participated in mentoring programs with screened adult volunteers, 2,000 youth participated in presentations about mental health, suicide awareness and support resources and 250 youth participated in recreational, social and employment programs in F2016.

United Way of Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin reports that agencies have provided individual counselling sessions to 195 victims of sexual violence, answered 9,700 calls from those experiencing distress and helped 1,150 newcomers and immigrants get involved in their communities.

In fighting poverty, it helped 178 disadvantaged adults receive assistance with reading, writing and numeracy skills to improve employability and served 3,214 meals to people with disabilities and food insecurity.

Financial Review:

United Way of Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin is considered a medium-cap charity with donations of $3.7m in F2016. The charity’s administrative costs are 10% of total revenues and fundraising costs are 10% of donations. For every dollar donated, 80 cents goes towards its programs, falling within Ci’s reasonable range. The charity has funding reserves of $2.5m which can cover program costs for just over 10 months.
