About Potential Place:
Potential Place is a small, 1-star rated charity. It is not financially transparent and publicly reports little of its programs and results. Before you give, read Charity Intelligence’s report.
Founded in 1995, Potential Place is dedicated to improving the lives of people with chronic mental illness. The charity is based in Calgary, Alberta. According to the charity, one in five Calgarians struggle with mental illness at some point in their life. As a member of Clubhouse International, Potential Place operates in accordance with international standards relating to the treatment of clients, programming offered, and governance. The charity has two main programs: Housing and Employment. The charity does not disclose how much it spent on its programs in F2021.
Potential Place’s Employment program provides training, job placement, and professional development services.
Through the charity’s Housing program, the charity advocates for housing support for its clients. Potential Place operates two small apartment buildings that can house 25 adults.

Results and Impact
Potential Place commissioned a study published by the Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health in F2021. The study looked at the Clubhouse model and its impact on psychiatric hospitalization in Canada. The study found that clients were less likely to be psychiatrically hospitalized after enrollment at Potential Place. The percentage of clients hospitalized dropped from 32% to 16% after registration to Potential Place.
While Charity Intelligence highlights these key results, they may not be a complete representation of Potential Place’s results and impacts.
