About Ronald McDonald House of Alberta:

Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta merged with Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta in 2018. The merged charity is now called Ronald McDonald House Alberta and operates using (the former) Southern Alberta's charitable registration number. Ronald McDonald House Alberta (RMHA) accommodates families with seriously ill children while they receive treatment in local hospitals. RMA’s Houses help families regain a sense of normalcy while dealing with the emotional and financial challenges related to their child’s medical treatment. RMHA highlights that over 65% of Canadian families live outside of a city with a children’s hospital, which means that families would need to travel in order to access treatments for their ill or injured child. The charity’s most recent annual report is for F2018, but its most recent posted audited financials are from F2017. In F2018, RMHA reports hosting 1,220 families at 3 houses.

Ronald McDonald House Alberta’s houses are in Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary. In F2018, the Edmonton house, which has 35 family suites, hosted 588 families. The Calgary house contains 27 family suites and hosted 236 families. The Red Deer house contains 11 family suites and hosted 396 families. RMHA provides programs to the families staying at its houses. One example of these programs is Meals That Mend, which is a lunch delivery program that offers 150 nutritious grab-and-go lunches prepared by volunteers at RMHA and delivered to its Edmonton partner hospitals every week. In F2018, RMHA saw an increase in both families served (+6.3%) and the number of suites available to families (+5.5%) as they opened five new family suites; four in Calgary and one in Edmonton. RMHA also plans to open a new house in December 2019 called its Medicine Hat house, which will contain 6 family suites.

RMHA operates Canada’s first and only Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Unit provides cost-free medical, dental, and health education services directly to underserved families who experience barriers to accessing routine medical care. This program is staffed by Mosaic Primary Care Network and includes dental hygienists, kinesiologists, and dieticians. In F2018, the mobile unit had 2,384 health education visits, 1,261 dental visits, and 611 medical visits.
