About Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation:
Founded in 1994, Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation (QBCF) operates out of Montreal and aims to improve the lives of people in Quebec affected by breast cancer. QBCF reports that in Quebec, an estimated 6,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 1,350 die from breast cancer every year. To help those directly and indirectly affected by breast cancer, QBCF invests in three mission areas: research, support, and education and awareness.
Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation invested $2.0m into research in F2020 (47% of total grants and program spending). QBCF reports that since its establishment, it has funded 70 research projects. The charity provided research funding to two new projects in F2019.
Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation invested $1.2m into support projects for people with breast cancer in F2020 (29% of total grants and program spending). QBCF reports that it has funded 30 projects in the community that serve over 1,000 people annually. In F2019, QCFC subsidized 578 yoga sessions, which allow women with cancer to benefit from free yoga classes after treatment. The foundation also organized two accreditation training session for yoga-onco teachers.
QBCF spent $1.0m on education and awareness programming in F2020 (24% of total grants and program spending) – the foundation states that it educates over 11,500 people annually with its information booths and educational talks. Nearly 300 people attended the 2018 Forum of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation. The forum gives attendees a chance to learn about the latest scientific advances in breast cancer treatment.

Results and Impact
A project funded by QBCF has found proteins produced specifically by cancer cells that can be recognized by the immune system. Proteins produced by cancer cells can be therapeutically vaccinated if found on the surface of cancer cells. The foundation has also provided funding to a research project that is looking at managing brain fog, which is a side effect of chemotherapy. The project looks to develop a neuropsychological evaluation grid and memory workshop to help caregivers diagnose and minimize brain fog.
While Charity Intelligence highlights these key results, they may not be a complete representation of Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation's results.
