YMCA of Greater Vancouver is a 2-star charity. It is financially transparent and has low overhead costs. However, it has a below average results reporting grade.  

Founded in 1886, YMCA of Greater Vancouver (YMCA Vancouver) runs programs for children and families to strengthen communities. The charity helps people live healthier lives and teaches children leadership skills. It supports peoples’ spiritual, mental, and physical health. F2022 was the final year for YMCA Vancouver operating on its own. It has now merged with YMCAs in Kamloops Community and Northern BC to form YMCA British Columbia.  

YMCA of Greater Vancouver runs four main programs: Child Care, Community Programs, Membership Branches, and Association Services.  

In F2022, the Child Care program received 32% of program funds. YMCA Vancouver added 16 new childcare locations in F2022, which can care for 600 more kids. When the charity last counted in 2019, it provided childcare for 3,304 kids. This number has increased due to multiple expansions in recent years. In F2022, YMCA Vancouver held a panel discussion about childcare needs with government officials. 

In F2022, YMCA Vancouver allocated 32% of program spending to its Community Programs. The charity ran multiple day and overnight camps which had 5,827 attendees in F2022. It also leads an Outdoor Education program which taught over 5,200 people. In F2022, the charity's mental health services supported 469 youth.  

The remaining program funds were split between Membership Branches (22%) and Association Services (14%). YMCA Vancouver reported limited data on its activities in these areas. It helped open two new YMCA branches in British Columbia: the Bettle Allard YMCA and the Bob Chan-Kent Family YMCA.

Ci consolidated the financial statements of YMCA of Greater Vancouver, YMCA of Greater Vancouver Foundation, and YMCA of Greater Vancouver Properties Foundation.   

YMCA Vancouver received donations of $1.m in F2022. On its balance sheet, YMCA Vancouver Foundation included $13.7m in Strategic Reserve Donations. However, this value was backed out on the Statement of Cash Flow and had not yet come in at the end of F2022. YMCA Vancouver also received $26.5m in fees for services (47% of total revenues), $25.8m in government grants (453of total revenues), and $4.7m in business or rental income (8% of total revenues). Administrative costs are 9% of total revenues (less investment income) and fundraising costs are 24% of donations. This creates total overhead spending of 33%. For every dollar donated, 68 cents go to its programs. This falls within Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. 

YMCA Vancouver and its foundations have $53.6m in total funding reserves, of which $11.6m is donor endowed. Excluding donor-endowed funds, YMCA Vancouver can cover around 11 months of program costs.
