About Pacific Coast Public Television Association:

The Pacific Coast Public Television Association (PCPTA) is a charitable organization that focuses on educational television programming. It underwrites various daily educational non-commercial television programming to British Columbia and throughout Canada. It supports public television and KCTS 9 television.

KCTS 9 is a Washington-based television broadcasting company affiliated with PBS. It is a non-profit, community-licensed, publicly supported organization broadcasting American programs about arts, culture, science, film, food, kids, and current affairs. Pacific Coast Public Television Association is the Canadian funding partner of KCTS 9. The channels can be viewed in Canada through Shaw Cable and Bell ExpressVu.

PCPTA reported no full-time and 2 part-time staff, with average compensation of $78,089, on its T3010 CRA filing in 2016. In April 2016, the charity released a letter from the board of directors which noted that they would be reevaluating the future of PCPTA in Canada as changes in regulatory decisions threatened its charitable status. There has been no follow-up to this restructuring, but PCPTA is still operating as a registered charity in Canada.

Financial Review:

Pacific Coast Public Television Association is a medium-sized charity with $2.5m in donations in F2016. In F2016, PCPTA’s administrative costs were 3% of revenues and its fundraising costs were 47% of donations. As such, for every $1 donated, 50 cents went to the cause. This falls outside of Charity Intelligence's reasonable range for overhead spending. Funding reserves of $282k can cover less than 2 months of programming.

Ci used unaudited financial statements and the charity's T3010 filing with the CRA as audited financial statements were not available.
