About Fondation CHU de Québec:
The Fondation du Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (FCHUQ) is an organization that raises funds for the CHUQ, the largest hospital organization in eastern Quebec. Headquartered in Quebec City, the CHUQ is comprised of five hospitals and four care centres which serve a catchment of nearly 2 million people. The hospitals are the Centre Hospitalier de L’Université Laval, l’Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jesus, l’Hôpital du Saint-Sacrement, l’Hôpital Saint-Francois d’Assise and l’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec. Together, they have 14,000 employees, 1,700 doctors and 550 researchers.
Currently, the FCHUQ is engaged in funding several major projects at the CHUQ, including improving pediatric cardiac surgery, fighting cancer, modernizing the pharmacies, completing a centre for genomics and infectious disease, and a center for vascular diseases. FCHUQ also works with Opération Enfant Soleil, which grants funds to support pediatric care to children’s hospitals throughout Quebec.
The Fondation du Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec provided $9.5m in grants in F2016. Of these grants, 44% went towards research, 43% went towards equipment purchases, 7% went towards training and 6% went towards treatment improvements. These grants have financed nearly 300 projects including sending two pediatricians for training on pediatric asthma in Toronto and Grenoble.
The Fondation du Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec is a large-cap charity with donations and special events revenues of $16m in F2016. Its administration costs were 15% of revenues and fundraising costs were 5% of donations. For every dollar donated, 80 cents goes to the cause, falling within Ci’s reasonable range. It has funding reserves of $61.2m of which $48.2m are donor-endowed. Assuming that endowments receive a 5% return on investment, the charity can fund non-donor directed grants in perpetuity.
This charity report is an update that is being reviewed by the Fondation CHUQ. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.
