About Children's Health Foundation:
Founded in 1922, Children's Health Foundation has a mission to raise funds in support of health care, rehabilitation, and research for children and their families at the Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, the Thames Valley Children's Centre and the Children's Health Research Institute, all in London, Ontario. Funds raised support children and their families by enhancing specialized paediatric care, equipment, education programs, therapy, rehabilitation services and research.
In F2016, Children’s Health Foundation granted $7.0m to the supported hospitals. 45% of this funding was allocated to specialized pediatric care and programs, such as art therapy programs and a patient and family resource centre. 25% funded pediatric research covering a broad spectrum of children's health issues, such as maternal and newborn health and epigenetics. The remaining 30% of the funding was used to purchase pediatric equipment, including a transport incubator and an O-Arm, which allows for real-time 3D imaging of a patient’s anatomy in the operating room.
The charity also reports expenses for its own programs in community education and development. This includes its Children’s Leaders program, which connects community leaders with health care leaders in an intimate, exclusive setting. The program has a goal to raise awareness for the Foundation's pediatric health partners and to address the priority health care needs of children in the London region.
Children’s Health Foundation is a big-cap charity with $9.2m in donations in F2016. Administrative costs were 5% of revenues and fundraising costs were 20% of donations. For every $1 donated, 75 cents went to the cause. This falls within Charity Intelligence’s reasonable range for overhead spending.
The Foundation has $23.5m in funding reserves, of which $263k are donor-endowed. Excluding donor-endowed funds, Children’s Health Foundation can cover annual programs and grants 3.0 times.
This charity report is an update that is currently being reviewed by Children’s Health Foundation. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.
