OVERVIEW

About Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto:

Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto is a 1-star rated charity. It is not financially transparent and has a D in results reporting, meaning it publicly reports little of its programs and results. Please read Charity Intelligence's report before donating.

Founded in 1992, Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto (Sanctuary) is a Christian charity that supports poor and homeless individuals. Sanctuary runs a healthcare clinic, an arts program, street outreach, and community meals.

Every week, the charity runs a virtual church service, an art studio, a women’s group, community meals, and an alcoholics anonymous meeting. The charity reports that 300 people eat together weekly at the meals. The health clinic has 250 active patients, with 800 unique visits yearly.

Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto operated a social enterprise business, Switchback Cyclery, a retail and repair bike shop. The charity sold the enterprise in May of 2020. The business hired people with limited education, work experience, or a criminal record who may have had trouble finding a job in the traditional labour market.

Finances

Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto received $2.6m in F2020. Administrative costs are 3% of revenues and the charity does not report any fundraising costs. For every dollar donated, 97 cents go to the cause. This is outside Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. Extremely low overhead costs sometimes means that the charity may not be reporting accurately.

Sanctuary has $1.5m in funding reserves which could cover program costs for just over eight months.

Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto is not financially transparent. Audited financial statements are available only through an official request from the CRA.

This charity report is an update that has been sent to Sanctuary Ministries Toronto for review. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.
