About RESET Society of Calgary:

Founded in 1989, RESET Society of Calgary (formerly know as Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary) helps women and children who have experienced sexual exploitation and/or sex trafficking. RESET reports that more than 90% of trafficking victims within Canada come from Canada. The most common recruitment age for sex trafficking is 13 to 14 years.

RESET Calgary’s program includes two-stage housing (supported housing and supportive independent housing), life skills, trauma-informed counselling, educational scholarships, employment skills, and community support components. In F2018, RESET Calgary provided 7,944 safe nights to women and children. Of these women, 91% were homeless at intake, 96% had issues with addiction, 42% were pregnant or mothers, and 21% identify as First Nations.

In F2018, RESET Society of Calgary moved to a new location at Fisher Park, Calgary. It also purchased new houses in southern communities in Calgary to bring essential services and classrooms closer to participants. This reduces their need to travel through higher risk areas of the city.

Results and Impact:

RESET Society of Calgary reports that its Social Return on Investment (SROI) ratio over three years is $8.57 for every dollar invested. RESET Calgary says that social value is created for government systems, the community, and participants in its programs.

Financial Review:

RESET Society of Calgary is a ­­­­small charity, with total donations of $393k in F2018. Administrative costs are 13% of revenues (excluding investment income) and fundraising costs are 17% of donations. For every dollar donated, $0.70 go to the cause. This is within Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. Funding reserves of $1.7m can cover two years of annual program costs.
