OVERVIEW
About Girls E-Mentorship Innovation:
Girls E-Mentorship is a 3-star charity. It has a A- Results Reporting grade, which is above average. Its overhead costs are within Ci’s reasonable range, although the charity reports no fundraising costs. The charity’s reserves can cover program costs for one year and seven months, which is within Ci’s reasonable range.
Founded in 2014, Girls E-Mentorship (GEM) provides high school girls with mentorship and career guidance. GEM focuses on low-income neighbourhoods in Toronto. Its program is carried out through six pillars: mentorship, GEM Enrichments, Internships, GEMinars, Scholarships, and Gem Lab. GEM spent $765k on its program in the fiscal year ending in June (F2024).
Mentorship occurs over a nine-month period that coincides with the school year. Mentors meet with mentees regularly to support their professional growth by teaching skills like goal setting and time-management. There were 260 mentees in F2024.
GEM Enrichments offers a range of special events for mentees. Past events include a shadow day at RBC, a pitching masterclass at Relay Ventures, and tickets for lunch with President Obama. It ran eight enrichment events in F2024.
GEM’s partners offer paid summer internships for alumnae of the program. The charity’s partners offered five paid internships in F2024.
Each year, the charity holds five GEMinars. These are masterclasses where mentees can learn about the job market from female leaders across sectors. Partners include LinkedIn, Sephora, Deloitte, and Google Canada.
GEM offers scholarships to mentees who display initiative and need. In F2024, it gave 102 scholarships totalling $150k.
GEM Lab researches mentorship solutions that contribute to the academic and professional success of marginalized women. The charity writes reports on topics such as effective mentorship practices and adolescent girls’ mental health in Canada.

Comments & Contact
Comments added by the Charity:
Women make up the majority of Canada's minimum wage workers.
Only 3.3% or 23 TSX-listed Canadian companies had a woman CEO as of July 2018.
Women earn $0.87 for every dollar men earn.
Racialized women earn 33% less than non-racialized men.
Now, is the time to create meaningful change for real economic impact that will not just help some, but allow all to flourish. Now, more than ever, your investment in our next generation of female leaders is needed. Especially during these trying times.
Each year, GEM turns away more girls than we admit due to lack of funds. By supporting GEM, you are helping young women unlock their potential, gain vital career skills and build a stronger future for themselves and their communities.
