About Ethiopiaid Canada:

Founded in 2009, Ethiopiaid Canada is an international aid charity that works in partnership with Ethiopian organizations to reduce poverty in Ethiopia. The charity is the Canadian fundraising arm of the UK-based Ethiopiaid. The charity funds partners based in Ethiopia who implement projects on the charity's behalf. Ethiopiaid Canada aims to improve vulnerable women and girls' physical, social, and economic well-being. According to the charity, more than one quarter of the population lives below the poverty line, almost 50% of the population is illiterate, and one in 21 children die before the age of five.

At the time of this update, Ethiopiaid Canada’s most recent audited financial statements are from 2022 while its most recent annual report is from 2023.

Ethiopiaid runs four main programs: Maternal Health, Women’s Empowerment, Living with Disabilities, and Emergency Relief. The charity also runs Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and Health Care in Rural Communities programs. In 2022, Ethiopiaid Canada spent $732k on its programs. The charity does not provide a spending breakdown of its program costs.

Through its Maternal Health program, the charity aims to eradicate fistula and improve access to quality maternal health in Ethiopia. In 2022, 379 Safe Motherhood Ambassadors were rehabilitated and trained. The charity identified 112 new cases of obstetric fistula.

Ethiopiaid Canada's Women's Empowerment program supports the well-being of disadvantaged women and promotes community development through women's economic empowerment. The charity’s Addis Ababa safe house supported 1,084 women and children in 2022. The capacity in this house is only 900. Since 2019, 10,034 women received basic treatment and counseling from 12 community health workers.

Ethiopiaid Canada’s Living with Disabilities program treats orthopedic disabilities and decreases stigma in communities. In 2022, 910 males and females with disabilities received access to assistive devices. 125 women and children were provided home-based rehabilitation provisions.

Ethiopiaid Canada’s Emergency Recovery program provides life-saving support to those affected by conflict and natural disasters. The charity provides its relief services to Tigray, Amhara, and Afar. In Afar, the charity manages over 45 warehouses with a capacity of 73,850 metric tons.
