Finances

Progress Place’s audited financial statements follow line-item costing. This means that it does not properly disclose which expenses relate to programming, administrative, and fundraising activities. This is not a best practice. Ci had to use the charity’s T3010 filings with the CRA to determine programming, administrative, and fundraising costs. At the time of this report, the F2025 information was not yet available, so Ci allocated the expenses using its best discretion. Updates may be forthcoming once the F2025 T3010 information is available.

In F2025, Progress Place received $220k in donations and special events revenue, up 142% from the $91k received in F2024. In F2025, the charity received $5.3m in government funding which represents 89% of total revenues. Administrative costs are 3% of total revenues. The charity does not report any fundraising costs. For every dollar donated, 97 cents are available to go towards the cause. This is outside Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. In F2025, Progress Place spent $5.4m on its programs which represents 91% of total revenues.

In F2025, Progress Place had $1.4m in its reserve funds. This is enough to cover just over three months of annual program costs.

Progress Place is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental illness.

For more than 40 years, Progress Place has provided community-based, wrap-around services designed to support the recovery of people living with mental illnesswith no waitlists.  Individuals living with mental health challenges determine their path to recovery through Progress Place’s supported education, employment, housing, recreation, and peer support programs and services, all while being a part of Progress Place’s inclusive, respectful and engaging community.

Progress Place is grounded in the internationally recognized Clubhouse Model. Through this model, clients (called members), contribute to the Clubhouse’s daily activities while learning new skills, and utilizing their strengths which helps rebuild confidence and self-esteem. Research has proven the Clubhouse Model’s effectiveness in helping people find their own path to mental health recovery, while reducing emergency room visits and hospitalizations.

In addition to Progress Place’s core Clubhouse program, we are committed to supporting mental health recovery across all generations.  We offer innovative, diverse and recovery-centered programs for people of all ages including the Seniors Program in St. James Town, the Young Adult Program, the Community Place Hub Health Access Program in Weston Mount Dennis, and several Peer Support Programs such as the Warm Line Peer-Support Line. Our intergenerational programs provide safe and welcoming spaces where members develop meaningful connections, a sense of belonging and mutual support while working in partnership, growing and learning from each other.

Progress Place’s Impact:

  • Hospitalization rates drop by 85%, after only 1 year of a Member’s participation at Progress Place (F2024)
  • Progress Place Members have been employed at over 40 companies in Toronto through our Transitional Employment Program, and reported greater quality of life, self-esteem and sense of purpose. Longer on-the-job tenure is found to be highly correlated with Clubhouse program attendance.
  • Clubhouse programs provide $682M in annual government cost savings in the U.S., based on a report released in 2024 by Fountain House, a New York City organization that pioneered the Clubhouse Model in the late 1940’s.
  • 89% of callers to the Warm Line indicated that the Warm Line helped divert them from an emergency room visit or hospitalization

Please support the people of Progress Place as they forge their courageous and determined paths to recovery.  Your support will help achieve Progress Place’s vision that all people living with mental illness are given the opportunity for full recovery.

Together, we can make recovery happen.
