Finances
Although Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation's audited financial statements provide some disclosure on how much it spent on grants, it did not separate its fundraising and administrative costs. This means FMHF follows line-item costing, which is not a best practice. Given this, Ci has used the charity’s T3010 filing with the CRA Charities Directorate for this allocation. The charity’s T3010 for F2025 was not released at the time of this update, so Ci has updated only until F2024.
FMHF received $3.8m in donations in F2024, which is 53% of total revenue. This is a 17% decrease from the $4.6m in donations in F2023. It earned $2.8m in investment income in F2024, which is 39% of total revenue. In F2024, it granted a total of $2.2m to The Moncton Hospital, which is 30% of revenue. FMHF recorded a surplus of $3.4m (46% of revenue) in F2024.
FMHF spent $845k on fundraising costs, which is 22% of donations. It spent $810k on administrative costs, which is 18% of revenue. FMHF has total overhead spending of 40%. For every dollar donated to FMHF, 60 cents are available to go to the cause. This is not within Ci’s reasonable range of 65-95.
FMHF had net lottery revenue of $322k after expenses of $62k. This means that for every dollar given towards the lottery, 84 cents went to the charity.
FMHF has $32.9m in reserve funds (cash and investments). It has donor endowments of $10.4m. Excluding donor-endowed funds, FMHF’s reserve funds can cover 1280% or nearly 12 years and ten months of its annual grant costs. This is not within Ci’s reasonable range of three years or less.
In F2024, FMHF had investment returns of 9%. It is 68% invested in pooled funds. Its investment returns have averaged 3% over the last five years.
This report is an update that has been sent to Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation for review. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.
