Food Banks BC is a 4-star charity with an excellent A results reporting grade. For every dollar donated, 89 cents are available to go towards the cause. Its reserve funds can cover almost nine months of annual program costs.

Founded in 2004, Food Banks British Columbia (Food Banks BC) works towards reducing food insecurity across British Columbia. With 382,000 British Columbians living in poverty, BC currently has the second highest poverty rate in the country. According to the charity, food banks received nearly 250,000 visits per month in 2024. In fiscal 2025 (year ended March), Food Banks BC reports that it provided food and financial aid to over 130 member and non-member hunger relief agencies and it received and disbursed 1,247,572 pounds of food. In F2025, Food Banks BC spent $12.6m on its four programs and grants: School Meal Pilot, Resilient North Project, Emergency Food Support, and Agency Relief Fund. The charity does not provide a spending breakdown for its programs.

Food Banks BC has two school nutrition programs in partnership with Flourish School Food Society and BC Agriculture in the Classroom. Both programs make up the charity’s School Meal Pilot program. To date, School Meal Pilot has provided 2.4 million healthy produce or dairy snacks, reaching 19,200 children across 42 schools within six districts in BC. In F2025, Flourish School Food Society is delivering 1,100 servings of food daily to 22 schools. 

The goal of the Resilient North Project is to understand the opportunities and barriers regarding food access in northern BC. In F2025, Food Banks BC launched its Rapid Stimulus Grant. In total, over $800,000 was awarded to 35 non-profit organizations and First Nations in Northern BC to advance food systems transformation. To date, 21 garden boxes have been installed.

Emergency Food Support supports rural areas after natural disasters. In August 2024, the Tsideldel First Nation’s fishing activities were hindered by the Chilcotin River landslide. In response, 500 salmon were caught and donated.

Food Banks BC’s Agency Relief Fund provides financial assistance to member and non member agencies. In F2025,  the Agency Relief Fund distributed $2.4m.

Food Banks British Columbia’s audited financial statements follow line-item costing. This means it does not properly disclose which expenses relate to programming, administrative, and fundraising activities. This is not a best practice. At the time of this report, the charity’s 2025 T3010 filing with the CRA was not yet available.

In F2025, Food Banks BC received $6.8m in donations. The charity also received $6.3m in government funding, representing 86% of total revenues. In F2025, administrative costs are 11% of total revenues (less investment income). The charity does not report any fundraising costs. For every dollar donated, 89 cents are available to go towards the cause. This is within Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. In F2025, Food Banks BC spent $12.6m on its programs which represents 172% of total revenues. The charity had a deficit of $6.0m, meaning it drew down its reserves in F2025.

In F2025, Food Banks BC had $9.2m in its reserve funds. This can cover almost nine months of annual program costs.
