About Muslim Welfare Canada:

Founded in 1993, Muslim Welfare Canada (MWC) is located in the Greater Toronto Area. The charity’s mission is to support the most vulnerable in our society. MWC runs five programs: food, wellness, shelters, education, and relief. Its work is mainly focused around the GTA, but it also works in northern Canada and internationally, mostly in Pakistan. MWC spent $6.9m on its programs in 2024.
Food received 37% ($2.5m) of program spending in 2024. The program includes two food banks in Toronto, two food banks in the Canadian Artic (Inuvik and Iqaluit), Project Ramadan, Regent Meals, Meals on Wheels, Malvern Eats, Senior Meals on Wheels, Public School Nutrition, and Qurbani. Toronto food banks had over 30,000 visits in 2024, and the Artic food banks received 5,000 visits. Project Ramadan delivered over 6,000 food baskets to families in Ontario. Regent Meals served 36,000 meals in the Regent Park area of Toronto. Meals on Wheels and Senior Meals on Wheels provided 59,000 meals to homeless people in Toronto and Hamilton. Malvern Eats served over 10,000 meals to seniors, single parents, and those facing economic challenges in Toronto. Public School Nutrition operates in 28 schools in high-needs areas of Toronto to serve breakfast, morning meals, and snacks. Qurbani distributed over $300k worth of meat internationally to those in need.
Wellness received 19% ($1.3m) of program spending in 2024. MWC is building a 192-bed long-term care facility in Courtice, Ontario. Construction began in 2024. The wellness program includes the Free Medical Clinic, Mother and Child Support, and Musallah Al Abbas. The Free Medical Clinic offers services in Scarborough and Missisauga for uninsured individuals. Over 900 patients accessed the clinic in 2024. Mother and Child Support works in Pakistan to support mothers and newborn babies for the first 1,000 days from conception. It supported more than 1,000 women and their children in 2024. Musallah Al Abbas is a mosque and community centre in Mississauga.
Shelters received 18% ($1.2m) of program spending in 2024. Muslim Welfare Home, in Whitby, has 45 beds and sheltered over 500 women and children in 2024. Muslim Welfare Residences, located in Whitby, is a two-year transitional housing program with 26 beds. It offers financial literacy education, three meals a day, job search assistance, and mental health support.
Education received 18% ($1.2m) of program spending in 2024. The program includes: Support a Child, Support a Deaf Child, and Fill a Backpack. Support a Child provides children in Pakistan access to education and vocational training, and protection against child labor and abuse. In 2024, it supported 700 children. Support a Deaf Child provided specialized education and vocational training to 75 hearing impaired students in 2024 in Pakistan. Fill a Backpack distributed 3,000 backpacks with grade-appropriate school supplies to children from low-income families across Canada.
Relief received 7% ($481k) of program spending in 2024. The program includes Water Exploration, Disaster Relief, and Refugee Welcome Kits. Water Exploration provides clean drinking water to remote villages in Pakistan. It built 550 wells and hand pumps in 2024. Disaster Relief provides essential aid like food, water, shelter, and medical supplies in response to emergencies globally. Refugee Welcome Kits provides support kits with items like kitchenware and blankets to newly arrived refugees.

MWC’s food program provided around 146,000 meals to people in need. Since 2005, the charity installed over 3,800 wells and hand pumps, which benefited over 321,000 individuals. While Ci highlights these results, they may not completely reflect MWC’s results and impact.
