Comments added by the Charity:
True North Aid is a Canadian, registered charity that provides practical, humanitarian support to northern and remote Indigenous communities in Canada. We are committed to working with communities that are more than two hours away from critical services and goods such as hospitals, specialized care and support services, grocery stores, and other essential needs. Many of these communities are only accessible by plane, ice roads or barge/ferry.
To help those understand the scope of the needs in remote communities and to help guide and focus True North Aid’s work, eight foundational stones of support were created in 2016 with input from our Indigenous Advisory Committee. These stones include self-determination, reconciliation, water, food, health, housing, culture, and education. Defining these allows us to fulfill a wide range of needs in the Indigenous communities that reach out to us. Within these areas of focus, True North Aid prioritizes self-determination and empowering the community partners we work with. By collaborating with local community leaders, we hear from them directly to understand the needs in their community. This ensures that True North Aid is able to build sustainable, lasting change in the areas they’ve deemed a priority.
True North Aid is committed to transparency and sharing with our donors the impact their donations are having in northern and remote Indigenous communities across Canada. Each year, we produce an Impact Report, and hold a Year-in-Review which can be viewed on our website (https://truenorthaid.ca/our-impact/) along with our annual Audited Financial Statements.
